Underground Railroad Tour Visits Eleutherian College
The Indiana Historical Society is bringing it’s “Underground Railroad Tour” to Jefferson County March 21 and March 28, 2019. This is the third year for the event and the first time the tour has come to the Madison area. Historian Jeannie Regan-Dinius of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will lead the tour.
In addition to visiting the College, the tour will include Madison’s historic Georgetown neighborhood, which was home to a thriving community of African- Americans during the tumultuous decades leading up to the Civil War.
This will be a great opportunity to showcase not just the College building itself, but all of the history of work done by dedicated residents – black and white – who fought the scourge of slavery and knew that education was the first step in truly making men – and women – free.
