Big Dreams for the Next Decade
Dottie Reindollar and Jae Breitweiser were two women who rescued a building from demolition. In the process they helped uncover a little known history of Jefferson County and publicize its role in the Underground Railroad.
The first 25 years of the rescue stabilized the building, secured surrounding property, and established it as a National Historic Landmark. Over the next decade, the board hopes to strengthen its ties with Hanover and Berea College, and with the other schools involved in the Ohio River National Freedom Corridor.
Partnerships with the arts, the humanities and with social justice organizations will provide new opportunities for programming, scholarship and new sources of funding. A facilities and landscape master plan will be devel-oped, as funding is sought for additional restoration and build-ing.
